Upon hearing about a college scholarship, reserved for caddies who win the Caddy Day golf tournament, Noonan attempts to charm the country club’s stodgy co-founder, Judge Elihu Smails (Ted Knight). Meanwhile, a new member, Al Czervik (Rodney Dangerfield) shows up at the club and causes nothing but problems, especially when gophers from his construction site infest the golf course. When the Judge discovers that he is to blame for the infestation, he wants him out of the club ASAP. He challenges him to a round of golf, with the loser leaving the club for good. Because the Judge is so unpopular, Czervik teams up with Ty Webb (Chevy Chase), a layabout playboy who often imparts useless advice to Noonan.
