He is also becoming restless with his girlfriend, Tobie (Donna Mills), as he prefers to live the life of a bachelor. During a night out, Garver meets a woman, Evelyn Draper (Jessica Walters), who admits that she is a fan and a regular listener to his show. The begin a relationship, but Garver soon realises that Evelyn is actually an obsessed fan with a seriously disturbed personality. Despite his efforts to gradually and gently sever ties with Evelyn, her behaviour becomes worse until she is eventually sectioned after stabbing his housekeeper, Birdie (Clarice Taylor). Garver and Evelyn eventually meet again, though this time with deadly results.
