Whilst in jail, he is outnumbered and treated harshly by the prisoner officers who assault him and the prisoners who barrage him with insults for letting down his country. He tries to keep his head down but soon has the opportunity to change his circumstances when approached by the Governor (David Hemmings) and asked to lead a team of prisoners in a specially organised football match against the prison guards.
