In Hot Tub Time Machine three friends are on a losing streak. Adam (John Cusack) has just been dumped by his girlfriend, Nick (Craig Robinson) is in a dead-end job and his wife is cheating on him, and Lou (Rob Corddry) is a suicidal alcoholic. To help Lou recover from carbon monoxide poisoning (after trying to kill himself), Adam and Nick, with Adam’s nephew Jacob (Clark Duke), go to a winter resort that was their old stomping ground. It’s now a complete dump, though the lads rally for a night of drinking in the hot tub. Things go wrong when a can of Chernobly (an illegal Russian energy drink) is spilled on the tub’s controls, sending them all back to a very important night in 1986. They see each other as their normal age but in their reflections and to other people they appear as they did in 1986, except Jacob who is yet to be born. No matter how tempting it is to change things for a better future, they must do everything in the same way otherwise Jacob will never be born.
