He decides to fight his fate by purchasing the genes of Jerome Morrow (Jude Law), a superior human who broke his back after attempting suicide – because he finished second in a swimming competition. He assumes Jerome’s identity and joins the Gattaca space program, where he falls for a fellow student, Irene (Uma Thurman). However, when Director Josef (Gore Vidal) is murdered, suspicion falls on Vincent and he is investigated by a police officer, Anton (Loren Dean), who shares a history with him.
