Transported by a Navy patrol boat filled with rookie sailors, Willard has time to think about his mission and why he is being sent to a kill a man who has gone ‘mad’ fighting in a war that is more insane than any of its combatants. Along the way Willard and his escorts meet Lieutenant Colonel Bill Kilgore (Robert Kilgore), a surfing obsessed officer with the 1st Air Cavalry Division who likes to finish his missions early and hit the waves.
