They eventually fall in love, but an evil sorcerer, Lord Rothbart (Jack Palance), desiring the throne for himself, plots against them. In the form of a beast, Rothbart mortally wounds William, and kidnaps Odette then places her under a spell. Now it is up to Derek to rescue his princess and prove his love, before it is too late.
